3 Days in Los Angeles: A Local’s Guide to the City of Angels

Los Angeles may be known for Hollywood, Universal Studios, and the Walk of Fame, but there’s much more to the city than its tourist hotspots. With year-round sunshine, scenic beaches, and an incredible food scene (especially if you love Mexican cuisine), LA offers a vibrant mix of urban and coastal experiences. If you’re looking for a slightly less touristy itinerary for your 3-day trip, this guide is for you.

Day 1: Exploring West Hollywood

Morning: Brunch & Instagram-Worthy Sights
Start your day with brunch at Urth Caffé on Melrose, a beloved spot known for its organic food and fresh salads. After enjoying your meal, head over to the Paul Smith store to take pictures in front of its famous bright pink wall—a popular Instagram spot. Be warned, you might have to wait your turn!

Afternoon: Shopping & Culture
For those in the mood to shop, make your way to The Grove, an outdoor mall with stores like Nike, Nordstrom, and Anthropologie. After some retail therapy, stop by Ladurée for macarons or grab a snack at the Farmers Market.

Next, pay a visit to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the largest art museum in the western U.S. While there, don’t miss the iconic Urban Light installation—202 restored antique street lamps perfect for photo ops.

Evening: Bars & Late-Night Tacos
As the sun sets, head to West Hollywood (WeHo) for some bar hopping. Cap off your night with tacos from Guisados, renowned for serving some of the best tacos in LA.

Day 2: Coastal Vibes at Santa Monica & Venice Beach

Morning: Santa Monica
Begin your second day by heading to Santa Monica, a beachside city known for its photogenic pier and family-friendly vibe. Have breakfast at Blue Plate and take a stroll to the pier. If you’re feeling active, rent a bike and cruise along the beach bike path that connects Santa Monica to Venice Beach.

Afternoon: Venice Beach
Venice Beach has a grungy, artsy atmosphere that’s perfect for people-watching. Check out Muscle Beach, watch skaters perform tricks at the skatepark, or browse the quirky souvenirs at Venice’s street stalls. Don’t miss a peaceful walk along the charming Venice Canals, a slice of European charm in LA.

Evening: Rooftop Drinks
End your day with sunset drinks at the High Rooftop Lounge, which boasts stunning ocean views, daily drink specials, and live DJs—perfect for a relaxed evening by the coast.

Day 3: Griffith Observatory & The Hollywood Sign

Morning: Rodeo Drive
No trip to LA is complete without a visit to Rodeo Drive. Whether you’re window shopping or simply admiring the flashy cars parked outside, the luxury shopping street is a fun way to experience LA’s glamour. Grab a bite at Nate ‘n Al, a classic diner famous for its sandwiches.

Afternoon: Griffith Park & The Hollywood Sign
Hop on the DASH Observatory bus and make your way to Griffith Park, one of the largest urban parks in the U.S. Here, you’ll find great hiking trails and sweeping views of the city, including the iconic Hollywood Sign. It’s a fantastic spot for outdoor lovers and photographers alike.

Evening: Griffith Observatory
As night falls, head to the Griffith Observatory, a top spot for taking in the LA skyline and capturing photos of the city’s twinkling lights. The observatory also offers a planetarium, theater, and solar telescopes. For dinner, try Eveleigh in West Hollywood, which offers a farm-to-table menu inspired by American and European country cooking.
